About the 2026 World Rugby Junior World Championship

The World Rugby Junior World Championship is rugby’s premier underage tournament, featuring the top 12 rugby nations competing for global supremacy. Held annually, this prestigious event showcases the future stars of international rugby – many of whom go on to represent their countries at senior World Cup level.

The championships takes place across two Georgian cities:

AIA Arena in Kutaisi – Pool stage matches
Avchala Stadium in Tbilisi – Knockout stages and finals

Physical Requirements
Moderate fitness required for walking tours and mountain excursions. 4×4 ride to Gergeti Trinity Church involves mountain roads. Some tours include walking on uneven terrain.

Day 1 - Arrival & Welcome Dinner

Kutaisi, Georgia – Arrive in Kutaisi and settle into your hotel (check-in from 3:00 PM). Welcome meeting at 6:00 PM with trip leader and fellow travellers. Welcome dinner included – sample local favourites and experience your first taste of Georgian cuisine.

 

Day 2 - Kutaisi City Tour & Wine Tasting

Kutaisi, Georgia – Guided walking tour of historic Kutaisi, one of Georgia’s oldest cities. Explore key landmarks and local neighbourhoods. Relaxed lunch at local venue followed by wine tasting – learn about Georgian winemaking traditions and sample regional wines. Afternoon at leisure.

Day 4 - Journey to Svaneti
Sun 28 Jun
Mestia, Georgia – Depart Kutaisi toward Svaneti mountains. Stop in Zugdidi to visit Dadiani Palace and botanical gardens. Lunch in Zugdidi. Scenic stop at Enguri Dam. Arrive Mestia evening. Included dinner featuring traditional Svanetian dishes and local mountain cuisine.
Day 5 - Ushguli UNESCO Village

Mestia/Ushguli, Georgia – Scenic day trip to Ushguli, one of the highest permanently inhabited villages in Europe (UNESCO-listed). Surrounded by dramatic Caucasus mountain landscapes and medieval stone towers. Free time to explore and take photos. Lunch included in Ushguli before returning to Mestia.
Day 6 - Mestia Cultural Heritage

Mestia, Georgia – Visit Svaneti Museum of History and Ethnography – remarkable collection of medieval icons, manuscripts, and archaeological artefacts. Continue to Margiani Tower and House-Museum – insight into traditional Svan defensive architecture and family life. Lunch at local restaurant. Afternoon at leisure for resting, exploring, or short hike.
Day 7 - Return via Tskhaltubo
Wed 1 Jul
Tskhaltubo/Kutaisi, Georgia – Depart Mestia toward Kutaisi. Stop in Tskhaltubo to explore Soviet-era history and famous spa resorts. Settle into Kutaisi hotel. Evening at leisure.
Day 8 - Game Day 2

Vani/Batumi, Georgia – Leave Kutaisi toward coastal Batumi. Stop at Vani Archaeological Museum – ancient Colchian artifacts and rich history. Lunch together. Continue to Batumi. Afternoon at leisure – explore seaside, stroll promenade, or relax by Black Sea.
Day 10 - Batumi City Tour

Batumi, Georgia – Guided walking tour of Batumi – discover blend of old and new architecture, rich history, and iconic Ali and Nino Statue. Rest of day at leisure – stroll seaside promenade, relax in café, shop in city center, or visit Batumi Botanical Garden.
Day 11 - Makhuntseti Waterfalls

Makhuntseti/Batumi, Georgia – Day trip to Makhuntseti. Visit Makhuntseti Waterfall, King Tamar’s Bridge, and Mirveti Waterfall. Cross hanging bridge and walk through village. Lunch at local family restaurant in Machakhela Valley – traditional dishes, homemade wine, and folklore show. Return to Batumi.
Day 12 - Martvili Canyon

Martvili Canyon/Kutaisi, Georgia – Travel Batumi to Kutaisi with stop at Martvili Canyon – breathtaking natural gorge with emerald-green waters, dramatic cliffs, and lush surroundings. Scenic walk along canyon trails. Lunch together. Arrive Kutaisi.

Borjomi, Georgia – Travel to Borjomi, famous for mineral water and scenic surroundings. Orientation walk with leader. Visit Borjomi Central Park. Lunch included. Afternoon at leisure to relax or explore further.
Day 15 - Vardzia Cave City
Thu 9 Jul
Vardzia/Akhaltsikhe/Borjomi, Georgia – Drive to Vardzia cave city – once-mighty complex stretching over half a kilometre along river Mtkvari with 19 tiers of cobbled streets. Rock-hewn church with 12th-century frescos. Guided tour with historical context. Afternoon visit to Rabati Fortress in Akhaltsikhe – watchtowers, gardens, and places of worship. Return to Borjomi.
Day 16 - Stalin Birthplace & Tbilisi
Fri 10 Jul
Gori/Tbilisi, Georgia – Drive to Gori, birthplace of Joseph Stalin. Visit Stalin Museum – childhood home, personal artifacts, and exhibitions. Lunch in Gori. Continue to Tbilisi. Settle into hotel. Evening at leisure.
Day 17 - Tbilisi Old Town

Tbilisi, Georgia – Guided walking tour of Tbilisi Old Town – narrow streets, colorful balconies, and historic landmarks. Lunch together. Afternoon at leisure – visit museums, relax in Tbilisi baths, ride cable cars, or take funicular for city views.

Mtskheta/Gudauri, Georgia – Depart Tbilisi to Jvari Monastery – iconic 6th-century church above Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers confluence. Continue to Mtskheta, Georgia’s ancient capital. Explore historic streets. Lunch together. Travel toward mountains to Gudauri. Stop at Ananuri Fortress and scenic Jinvali Reservoir. Arrive Gudauri evening. Included dinner at hotel.
Day 21 - Caucasus Peaks & Wine Region

Stepantsminda/Kakheti, Georgia – Drive to Stepantsminda. Stop at Friendship Arch – panoramic views of mountains and Dariali Gorge. From Stepantsminda, 4×4 ride to Gergeti Trinity Church – breathtaking vistas of Caucasus peaks. Continue to Kakheti Wine Region. Evening dinner at local winery – taste traditional Georgian wines and learn about qvevri (ancient clay vessel method).
Day 22 - Telavi Market & Return

Telavi/Tbilisi, Georgia – Orientation walk of Telavi with leader. Visit Telavi Market – sample local produce, cheeses, and sweets. Continue to Batonis Castle – historic fortress with panoramic views of vineyards. Drive back to Tbilisi.
Days 23-24 - Game Days 6 & 7
